NexAsia Moves: FPI names new chairman, CEO; Vontobel loses Singapore head

    Friends Provident names new CEO and Chairman. Aviva’s Friends Provident International has recently named Singapore-based Khor Hock Seng as chief executive and Hong Kong-based Chris Wei as chairman, effective July 1. Their appointments come after the resignation of the firm’s executive chairman, John Van Der Wielen, as well as their investment director, Colin Tipping. Reuters

    Manulife promotes three senior executives at its HK office. Manulife announced the appointment of three senior executives in its Hong Kong office to help bolster business in the region, it said in a statement.

    Calvin Chiu, the firm’s former VP of global pensions and benefits, was named vice president, pensions for Greater China at Manulife Asia. In his new role, Chiu is responsible for coming up with strategies to gain market entry, as well as expand in the mainland China and Taiwan.

    Edgar Chan, formerly with the firm’s risk management team, has meanwhile been promoted to the firm’s assistant vice president, projects, and distribution operations. He has been credited for helping grow Hong Kong’s client base from the mainland China.

    Lastly, Ji-Ye Hwang, a former senior consultant at a global consultancy firm, has also been appointed assistant vice president of innovation and customer experience for Manulife Hong Kong. In her new role, she is responsible for implementing the firm’s “desired customer journeys through innovation and collaboration with different businesses.”

    Vontobel loses Singapore chief to the Swiss Confederation. Thomas Sussli, Vontebel Financial Products’ Singapore-based CEO, will be stepping down from his post after receiving an appointment from Switzerland’s Federal Council. Dubai-based Remigio Luongo and Zurich-based Gerhard Meier will both step into Sussli’s void and expand the firm’s Singapore operations from their current bases. Vontobel
