Hedge funds grow in May

    Hedge funds were up 0.92% in May, BarclayHedge reports.

    The Barclay Hedge Fund Index has grown 4.58% for the year, after benefiting from developed market equity growth. The Nikkei in Japan was up 5.6%, the S&P 500 grew 1.29%, and the MSCI Europe Index was up 0.8%, all despite fears of rising rates int he U.S. and drama with Greece.

    Only two of Barlcay’s 18 hedge fund indices lost out in May. The Equity Short Bias Index was down 2.14% last month, logging a 6.35% dip for the year. The Healthcare & Biotechnology Index leads for the year, gaining 5.38% in May, and 12.64% for 2015.

    Pacific Rim Equities were up 2.22% in May, or 8.02% in 2015. Emerging Markets gained 7.97% for the year, European Equities grew 5.22%, and Merger Arbitrage added 5.23%.
