NexAsia Moves: HSBC Asset appoints new director, Vontobel names new execs

    HSBC Global Asset Management appoints new director for China. HSBC Global Asset Management said it has appointed Mark Li as director for institutional business for China, starting June 15. Li will replace Susanna Wong who has left the British bank.

    A 20-year veteran of the Chinese market, Li has been with HSBC for more than 10 years. Prior to HSBC, he has held various investment-related posts in several financial institutions in China.

    In his new role, Li will report to Pedro Bastos, CEO Hong Kong and regional head of Asia and the Pacific.

    “China is instrumental to our institutional business in Asia. Mark’s addition further strengthens HSBC’s position as one of the leading asset managers in the region by connecting our clients in China to global opportunities through our wide-ranged investment capabilities and products. With our long established local presence, HSBC is well-positioned to further seize business opportunities in China, especially as its untapped potential continues to be unleashed,” Bastos said.

    At present, Li is chief investment officer for Greater China at HSBC Life Insurance.

    Vontobel Wealth Management announced two new execs. Vontobel Wealth Management Asia Pacific has named Michael Haupt as chief operating officer of their Hong Kong operations effective June 1. Haupt, who was responsible for private market investments in the firm’s Private Banking division in Switzerland, will be joining Steven Ng, who joined the firm as an Investment Advisor last April after several years of handling funds and private equity distribution for Robeco Hong Kong and HSBC. These newly-created roles are expected to boost their presence in Hong Kong’s Wealth Management arena. Vontobel

    Bravia Capital Hong Kong adds new advisory board member. Hong Kong-based transportation and logistics investment firm Bravia Capital has recently announced the addition of Ms. Anne Oian to their Advisory Board. Oian, who held the post of global head of shipping for Norway’s DNB bank, has also served as director for a multitude of shipping companies and private firms worldwide. Business Wire
